Saving our Children from Ourselves
Recently, Negroes met in several venues in Harlem to discuss teen violence. The shootings during the Memorial Day weekend prompted many of these meetings. At the end of the day, a Negro leader recommended that Blacks should hold a summit and invite Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly to guide them.
This is the same police commissioner that has never seen a shooting of a black youth by a police officer that was unjustified under police guidelines as though these guidelines trump the state's penal code. He has maintained a shoot-to-kill policy that was reflected in the assassination of Sean Bell.
Even chickens should know not to invite a fox into the chicken coop. This Negro advocate made this recommendation over the public airwaves. He has access to several Black radio stations and white media. So far, no Black person has publicly dissented to his outlandish recommendation. In short, we are throwing our children to the wolves.
There are many viable recommendations. First and foremost, we should be urging the New York City Council to establish a summer employment program forthwith coupled with a summer recreational program. New York City has a $60 billion budget. The plight of Black children has reached a crisis.
In the alternative, Gov. David Paterson may officially declare martial law. Martial law is already in effect, however. Policemen are confronting, searching and, in many cases, arresting Black youth in an unconstitutional fashion. They are tried in kangaroo courts. Receivership and not martial law is the answer.
Children in the Black colony are subject to white paternalism. The head honcho is Schools Chancellor Joel Klein, a lawyer who has less experience with children relative to my own experience with children. Of course, white sugar is healthier than brown sugar. When our children look in the mirror, they must, by design, see Joel Klein as a role model.
This is psychic violence which was supposed to be outlawed in public education in Brown v. Board of Education. It is still running amuck among a defenseless people ill-equipped to combat deceptive methods. Psychic violence is causing irreparable harm to our children. It leads to physical violence.
More than two million Black men assembled at the National Mall in 1995. We should have left there with assignments for our children. A year earlier, UAM had started Freedom Retreat for Boys and Girls. It is still in existence and growing subject to the limitations of volunteers and donors. This prototype is also an answer.
There will be a fund-raiser at the historic Cotton Club in Harlem on Saturday, June 14 at 9:00 p.m. Dinner tickets and raffle tickets are available for a wonderful evening. We need children advocates to defend our children and finance programs for them. UAM needs your assistance and support.

I'm sorry I missed this June event and consider myself an ADVOCATE for children. Our family lived in Harlem for many years and were considered a model family. Both of us were from low income parents and came from what is known as the bottom, but have emerged as articulate, aware, conscious Black people who are fighting for the very lives you speak of. I know your probably sick of hearing from me, but so many say they want people like US to help but NO ONE CALLS US BACK. I don't like "middle men". Too often they have their own agenda's and keep necessary people away from the TOP person in an attempt to keep their position fearing the other person may be seen as more qualified. I NEED alliances, and we have something to give back.
Close to 15 years parenting experience, a drive to see our people REACH THE PROMISE land, and a vision for how to get there.
We can and would love to volunteer to help with your UAM Retreat.
Again, a strong Black father figure with so much TALENT and new thinking activities to offer, and two great kids as models of parents who didn't come from PHD's or parents with PHD's but are offering our children a life filled with opportunities and a sense of FIGHT.
Once again, clearly the time is now.
Please allow us this chance we seek to meet with you which in exchange will help us formulate our Per Se case against this school system.
By the way...we are NEVER scared, our spiritual beliefs have protected us in a KKK town amidst KKK corrupt local and state police for the last 4 years as we are stalked, harassed, and monitored by a Gangstalking RUSSIAN network with ties to the police and the funds to move people RIGHT next door to harass and break into our home. THE STORY IS INCREDIBLE and we have never gotten help. THAT IS A SEPARATE ISSUE...OUR FOCUS IS ON SUING THIS SCHOOL SYSTEM AND MOVING AWAY!!!
