Re: Next Council Speaker of the New York City Council

Dear Councilmember:

Hundreds of activists assembled on the steps of City Hall this past Sunday to demand that a member of the Black, Latino and Asian Caucus become the next council speaker of the New York City Council. To be honest, the assembled group of activists prefer Councilman Charles Barron.

It is undisputed that a member of this caucus in 2010 could easily become the next council speaker unless these council members are fixed on the status quo. On a 51-person council, 27 members of the caucus can simply go into a room and choose the next council speaker. This is the wish of your constituents. Anyone who is afraid to represent his or her constituents effectively should refuse to take the constitutional oath in 2010.

You should feel free to attend a forum this Wednesday, December 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Elks Plaza, 1068 (Harriet Tubman) Fulton Street (nr. Classon Ave.) in Brooklyn and share your views on the future governance of New York City. Persons from throughout the city will be in attendance.
