Submitting and Correcting Freedom Party Petitions
New York Election Law allows for a political party that is petitioning the state for ballot status to correct errors on the independent designating petitions before it prepares a cover sheet. The Freedom Party has targeted August 16 to submit the petitions and the Cover Sheet to the Board of Elections in Albany.
Professional cleaners may be working around-the-clock for the next forty-eight hours. Some of this cleaning will require either the presence of the voter who actually signed the petition or the Subscribing Witness who may correct errors except to the voter's signature.
In some instances, campaign workers may correct minor errors or omissions. Some of these corrected errors will require initials from the Subscribing Witness. An uncorrected error may require the elimination of the petition or a challenged signature.
That being the case, the Freedom Party has secured a second location to put its petitions in order. The new location is Friendly Helping Hands Ministry, 225-41 118th Street in East Harlem. This is a community center. For this Saturday and Sunday, its doors will open at 10:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. daily. The final deadline is this Sunday evening.
Anyone who gets wind of this location should call anyone who has secured signatures to let them know of this alternative venue to Sista's Place. It is also nearer to the "Harlem Week" activities. All signatures secured on either Saturday or Sunday must be submitted immediately in either Brooklyn at Sista's Place or East Harlem.
For more information, call Sista's Place (347-636-3660).
