Re: Eliot Spitzer
Dear Rev. Jackson:
If you had an ounce of decency in your bones, you would immediately withdraw your offer for New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer to be the keynote speaker at the Wall Street Project’s breakfast in New York City on January 11. Whatever Spitzer may be doing to or for the Wall Street Project and for whatever reason, it is unmistakable that Spitzer is no friend of the Black community.
Of course, you are acutely and intimately aware of his adversarial relationship to the civil rights struggle. The concern though is that Black leaders fraudulently induced Black voters to cast their lot with him in an effort to defeat the incumbent, Dennis Vacco, in 1998. Spitzer won a razor-thin victory thanks to the unprecedented turnout in the Black community for a candidate whose name was not at the top of the ballot.
If you are indeed a bona-fide Wall Street analyst, the problem should be transparent. Blacks are not only getting zero returns on their investments but, more ominously, we are also financing our own oppression. Capitalists behave differently. They invest the money of others and exploit our labor. This explains the presence of your DNA in the United States.
The solution is also transparent. We must build our own political and economic institutions. The United States, in its incipiency, had the same problem. It was solved with the Civil War. Afterwards, Sen. Charles Sumner of Massachusetts warned Blacks to refrain from enrolling in either the Democratic or Republican parties. We have paid dearly for attempting to burglarize both parties.
Because you and every other high profile Black leader and elected official stand solidly behind Spitzer as though he is your slavemaster, it is time for every self-respecting person of African ancestry to vacate the Democratic plantation en masse and forthwith. The question is whether you will be remembered, historically, as a self-serving traitor dancing on Harriet Tubman’s grave.
By the way, Spitzer filed a lawsuit on January 3, 2005, to block the court-ordered school aid to historically-oppressed children. Educationally, generations of children have already been short-changed. His current assault on children comes fifty years after Brown v. Board of Education. What is the difference between Spitzer and George Wallace?
