An Interim Approach to the Defense of Tawana Brawley

After the kidnapping and rape of Tawana Brawley, the white media, led by The New York Times initiated the assault on Tawana Brawley. The media is gearing up for history to repeat itself and the defense for the Duke defendants will be the Tawana Brawley “hoax” as wrongfully and fraudulently characterized by former New York State Attorney General Robert Abrams.
If I had followed all other prominent Black activists and elected officials, Tawana would have no public defender today. It has been a tremendous sacrifice to me and my family. Justice comes at a tremendous price. A group war has now turned into a personal problem. The kidnapping and rape of Tawana is still a political crime.
The absence of defenders for Tawana Brawley will have a negative impact on the Duke prosecution. Television programs have already started a media blitz. There has always been a stealth war against Black women. Black leaders and especially Black men have sought to ignore it or join the opposition. See the case of Cong. Cynthia McKinney.
I have been ostracized because I continue to implicate Steven Pagones and my advocacy on the part of Tawana continues to show up others who have already sold out. To protect these traitors, corporate sponsors have ordered all Black talk show hosts to stay away from Tawana Brawley. If you believe otherwise, turn on your radio and listen.
For those persons who are still supportive of the Brawley family, we must do the following:
1. Establish a media watch, record Duke rape programs and send position papers to offending media outlets.
2. Form a campaign to demand that New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer releases, immediately, the unredacted, investigatory files concerning Tawana Brawley including all federal files.
3. Demand that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales release forthwith all FBI files, unredacted, concerning Tawana Brawley.
4. Demand that all self-appointed spokespersons and media addicts, who will not competently and zealously defend Tawana Brawley and who are unable to accuse Steven Pagones as being involved in her kidnapping and rape, to stay away from all radio and television programs that might raise the Duke rape or the Brawley rape.
5. Demand that the New York City Council pass a resolution requiring that New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer releases, unredacted, all investigatory files concerning the kidnapping and rape of Tawana Brawley.
