Dear Friend:

Thanks to support and encouragement from Drs. Rosalind and Leonard Jeffries, I will be conducting an Advanced Seminar on Critical Thinking and Legal Reasoning on December 9, 2006 at NAC Building, City College in Harlem. Registration will commence, for the all-day seminar, at 8:30 a.m. The seminar will start at 9:30 a.m.

Critical thinking is a survival tool especially in a mythological country where the truth, when unveiled, is presented in mysteries, mental minefields, problems, enigmas, riddles and puzzles. Our disunity and our disorganization is the product of our not placing a premium on critical thinking.

Logic focuses on the study of arguments. The soundness of an argument depends on the soundness of its premises. If a premise is unsound, the conclusion is also unsound. Try participating in a basketball without a knowledge of the rules.

This explains why most political and religious discussions between Blacks end up in violent disputes and lead to disunity. The Million Man March was highly successful but Black people are still without a political party and racial solidarity. For most Blacks, the political leader is former President Bill Clinton and not Min. Louis Farrakhan.

It takes a well-armed mind to navigate through this maze. This is verbal warfare, at its best, and it has placed most of our minds in the hands of the oppressors. The leading mythmaker is the Central Intelligence Agency. Its most boisterous mouthpiece is the Commander-in-Chief, George W. Bush.

The absence of critical thinking and legal reasoning means quiet and a lack of advocacy. This means a lack of political and legal representation. I have had to engage in verbal warfare with the best minds in the country. Criminal prosecutions, disciplinary proceedings, defamation lawsuits, grand jury investigations, summary proceedings and civil actions have been hurled at me perennially.

As I have become an elder, I recognize the significance of imparting this knowledge of self-defense and wisdom to others. We must stop reinventing the wheel. Unfortunately, most of our wisdom is wrapped in cloth and deposited in a cemetery as a residuary clause is placed in a will.

There will be a refresher course at the outset of the seminar to refresh memories and to get new students up to speed. If you are interested in the seminar, you should contact me by telephone at 718-834-9034 or by fax at 718-834-1275 for further information.
