MLK Holiday
When President Ronald Reagan signed into law federal legislation commemorating the life of Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. the third Monday in January, you had to suspect ulterior motives. More than twenty-one years after Reagan signed this legislation on October 20, 1983, political predators and hustlers have transformed this holiday into a festival of commercialism and prostitution.
This day will inaugurate the political scams for the year by engaging in public relations gimmicks in which historical institutions of Black struggle are converted into political brothels. The main purpose of these conversions is to put human masks on evil designs.
White politicians, who have done the greatest damage during the year against Blacks, are refueled with encouragement to repeat those misdeeds for another year. We do not stand for anything. If we did, white politicians would not dare try to employ us as props on King Day.
Nobody will question Sen. Hillary Clinton or Sen. Charles Schumer about dropping the ball in challenging the presidential election results in Ohio. Similarly, Eliot Spitzer, the state attorney general, who has just initiated a lawsuit to stop equal financing of education in New York, will get a pat on the back from Black hands.
Neither liberation nor oppression can occur without financing. This is the essence of capitalism. As Frederick Douglass stated: “You may not get everything you pay for but you will pay for everything you get.” This includes either freedom or oppression.
When Blacks turn out en masse on January 17 to greet rather than to object to white supremacists, faking appreciation for Dr. King, they will be financing their own oppression with great joy. Every choice that Blacks make during the year will either be a vote for oppression or a vote for liberation.
Since no Black liberation agenda has been crafted, most Blacks will choose the devil they know rather than the saint which many of them, regrettably, have only heard of. Neither Malcolm, Marcus nor Martin nor any reasonable facsimile of them is with us today.
Politically, the MLK Holiday works like this and especially in New York. Howard Rubenstein, a public relations guru, commissions a few, high-profile Black preachers to convene a throng of Blacks on King Day in order to showcase his white clients who retain him to mask their inhumane policies and practices while pumping up their public images.
High profile Blacks in New York also retain his services or similar consultants even if they have to barter. This is especially true of media addicts. The media’s advice is “don’t call us, we will call you.” The media’s role is to shape people’s thinking. It has its own agenda and it own characters. If you are a media junkie, you must have a public relations guru.
Events must be shaped to its liking. The media is like Hollywood. It has its own casting director. In New York, news is scripted. Media addicts are part of the script. Blacks get excited when another Black person makes an award-winning performance on the evening news. We lack the ability to detect a scripted performance.
Rubenstein will pour money into preachers for public relations events in Harlem on January 17 under the pretext of celebrating Dr. King’s life. The Blacks in attendance will serve, mainly, as props and extras. Since they are gullible and unsuspecting, they will receive no compensation.
It is a different story for the Black sponsors. They will be handsomely compensated for these charades to continue lounging in first class sections of airplanes, sleeping in five star hotels and enjoying Zagart dining. Materialism rather than spirituality is the guiding star for Black leaders.
Among those in attendance will be Sen. Charles Schumer, Sen. Hillary Clinton, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, NYC Council Speaker Gifford Miller, et. al. Their public relations consultants have already contracted with high profile Black leaders to give their clients maximum exposure on Dr. King’s holiday.
2005 Mayor Election
If you studied the 2004 presidential scampaign, you should already be able to predict the outcome of the 2005 mayoral election in New York City. It is the same script designed to lead Blacks on another wild goose chase. It will be a repeat of 2004. Many, but not all of the characters, are different.
Like in 2004, Blacks will be at the bottom of the totem pole on November 2, 2005 and this will happen because Blacks who receive the most ovations in the Black community are conspiring to bring about a failed result. 2005 will be another year of wasted resources and wasted energy.
Bloomberg was elected in 2001 only because he paid off some Black leaders to create confusion in the electoral process. Since Blacks had no dog in the fight, the outcome was, seemingly, insignificant. The critical question is who wrote the script in 2001?
Political hustlers control the Black community and hustlers are not visionaries. They only seek fast bucks and Bloomberg has plenty of them. If they have to assign a dog, to the mayoral scampaign, as a mayoral candidate to get Bloomberg bucks, they will toss a dog in the ring.
If the Black community were organized politically – and it is not– there would already be a well-financed Black mayoral candidate running only on a third party ticket. There are far more Black voters in New York than in any other ethnic group and a third party would allow us to write our own agenda.
Historically, the ethnic group with the greatest number of potential voters is given the keys to Gracie Mansion. This will be the first time in New York City’s history that a dominant ethnic group has defaulted in gaining access to mayoral power and authority. Our children and grandchildren will pay dearly for either our ignorance, conniving or our indifference.
The Health of Blacks in America
Blacks are surviving on life support systems. The economic and political health of Blacks today is the same as it was on January 1, 1863 when President Abraham Lincoln signed a war measure putting Blacks on the front lines to save the Union.
And save the Union we did. Afterwards, Blacks were immediately disarmed and placed under the jurisdiction of the Ku Klux Klan. No Patriot Act was enacted to suppress domestic terrorism and protect fugitive Blacks. Like in 1877, the Democratic and Republican parties are still conspiring against Blacks.
Notwithstanding our current survival on life support systems, Blacks are still bent on pulling the plug and committing suicide. Effective organizations, critical thinkers and information are life-saving devices. None of them exists in the Black community and every effort is being made to ensure that neither exists in the Black community.
These life-saving devices lay the foundation for unity and unity is necessary for survival. Unity allowed the Vietnamese people to withstand an overwhelming and relentless American, military assault. A similar situation is unfolding in Iraq. No prey can survive an attack from predators when the prey chooses to run alone rather than to run in a pack.
Whenever white America is suffering from a cold, Blacks in America are suffering pneumonia. If flawed intelligence is threatening whites in America, it is about to wreak havoc on Blacks in America. We should not expect to secure intelligence from talk or noncommercial radio.
Today, there are no institutions available to even disseminate relevant and lifesaving information to the Black community. By being bent on securing intelligence from radio, we are simply financing our own oppression. The federal government regulates the public airwaves and there is a bypass around the Black community.
On Tuesday, January 4, former Congresswoman Eva Clayton of North Carolina, whose district included Princeville, and who presided over the swearing-in ceremony of the Congressional Black Caucus, proclaimed that the CBC was the “moral compass of Congress and of the world.” This is a bold, reckless and wild-eyed statement.
Only Congresswoman Barbara Lee of California voted against the unlawful and unwarranted invasion of Iraq. She was the lone voice in the congressional wilderness and she was attacked from every political quarter for denying to Congress an unanimous, war resolution. If Lee is the moral compass, the CBC should try to hitchhike its image from someone else.
The United States is a debtor nation. In other words, the country is not only morally bankrupt but also economically bankrupt. But for countries like China and Japan, the United States would be, overtly, the top panhandling nation in the world. This means, among other things, that this country lacks the funds to finance Black oppression.
Instead of walking away from Black oppression, Blacks have chosen to finance our own oppression. Every day, Blacks vote overwhelmingly in favor of oppression. Exit polls are not necessary to reach this conclusion. No more than five cents out of every Black dollar is exchanged between Black hands. If this were blood, virtually every Black person would need a blood transfusion.
Since the dawn of the Twentieth Century, whites have funded national organizations to speak on behalf of Blacks. This puppeteering system has haunted our people for four hundred years. It prompted the Freedom Journal in its first editorial in 1827 to declare: “We wish to plead our own cause. Too long have others spoken for us.”
Blacks, who have fought to speak for themselves, have been terrorized, prosecuted, disciplined, bankrupted and exiled and for good reason. If you are to control the mouthpiece, you are able to control the flock. For this reason, the African drum was outlawed for centuries in North America.
The faith-based initiative is one example and it gives the Bush regime an opportunity to write sermons for preachers. The effort spent to become an HNNC or a Black elected official, under the auspices of the Democratic Party, is another example. The war against Chokwe Lumumba in the courtroom is a further example of an attempt to suppress dissent.
Self-determination means possessing the ability to write one’s own agenda. If you control the agenda, you control the people. This principle will be played out in Washington, DC this year. Republicans control Congress, the Supreme Court and the White House. The Bush White House will write the script and the agenda.
Out of this lack of checks and balances will invariably prompt an anti-Black agenda. Black leaders have failed to write an alternative or dissenting agenda. This is more egregious when you consider that the Democratic Party is a lapdog and not a watchdog. We are wandering in the political wilderness. We are voiceless. No Black organizations exists to save us from genocide.
Conclusion
Ethics and character were the twin pillars of the success of ancient Egypt. Our survival in this country has invariably been based on the good character of Black leaders. Since the assassinations of Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. and Malcolm X, the Black community has been infested with political hustlers, pimps and prostitutes. We must get back on track by enforcing “The Teachings of Ptahhotep.”
To show our low morals to the world, white supremacists are arranging well-publicized salutes for shady Black characters with Blacks in full attendance. They surround these shady characters with persons who once had a modicum of credibility. Because our community is unsuspecting and gullible, it is readily willing to embrace and follow Judas goats.
Aside from ethics and character, our community must move from a morontocracy to a meritocracy. The operative word today is intelligence. “Information is power.” No creative thinkers with ample resources currently exist in the Black community. The ability to think and analyze and the power to define are critical to the survival of a race. We must stop being defined by others.
When Plato was asked to attribute the reasons for the success of ancient Egypt, he noted that our ancestors had recognized the benefits of leisure class. He was not referring to Negro preachers. His reference was to the priests who were the eyes, ears and brain of this great civilization. A recent example is Dr. Amos Wilson.
Our revered ancestors spent their time solving problems and calculating the future. The time was freely accorded to them to educate and protect the people. Today, we are spending far too many dollars financing the scandalous schemes of Negro preachers. In the main, they are parasites like far too many lawyers. Charles Hamilton Houston asserted, “Any lawyer who is not a social engineer is a parasite.” Amen. The same conclusion applies to preachers.
