A Political Party or a Political Education?

For nearly four hundred years, New York has been under the control of either the Dutch or the English. During this period, there has been only one "Black" governor and one "Black" mayor of New York City. Whites have been given the opportunity of molding the political tricks of the trade. Black males received the right to vote in 1870. Black women would receive it in 1920.

The only way that you ca attempt to level the playing field is by at least giving Blacks affirmative action and reparations. Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. called for a massive redistribution of wealth. "Power concedes nothing without a demand" was true in the times of Freedom Douglass and it is still true today. All political demands must be made by a political party.

Slavery is an example. The first political demand for an abolition of slavery was made through the Liberty Party. The Free Soil Party took up the demand. Free soil was an issue in Dred Scott. Chief Justice Roger Taney ruled that Dred Scott lacked standing to raise this issue: "No Negro has any rights that a white man is bound to respect" including citizenship.

The Republican Party would take up the issue to save the Union and to drive a wedge between "slavemasters" and their "slaves." It was not a "War Between the States". Instead, it was a "War Between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party." New York was in the blue column. The "Compromise of 1877 would settle this split.

The evidence of this settlement can be found in the state conventions of the Republican and Democratic parties in 2010. Both the Democratic and Republican parties in New York have deiced to sponsor all-white, statewide slates in 2010 even though over forty percent of the state's population is non-white.

This is the creation of a hedge fund to guarantee white domination of state politics. History is repeating itself. We saw this act play out in 1877. The result was the unleashing of perennial terrorism against descendants of enslaved Africans with the U.S. Supreme Court riding shotgun.

The economic pie is getting smaller and whites have decided to hog the white pie. The first sign of this aggression was seen on January 6, 2010. Twenty-six Black, Latino and Asian members of the New York City Council handed white minority rule over to whites. They were Democrats. Councilman Barron was the only dissenter.

This seems incredible on its face unless you are a student of political tricknology. Voters elect political representatives. Political parties select them. Without a political party of their own, Black, Latino and Asian elected officials must two-time their constituents. Blacks, for example, correctly call them elected officials. Whites refer to them as political representatives.

Rudolph Giuliani is described as a Republican but he also needed the Liberal Party to enjoy public housing at Gracie Mansion. Mayor Michael Bloomberg is also described as a Republican but he needed the Independence Party to win the mayoral sweepstakes in 2009. Andrew Cuomo is a Democrat but he will need the Independence Party to win the gubernatorial sweepstakes in 2010.

The lesson to be learned is that Blacks will never be political players in New York until they establish a political party. This is why William Thompson lost to Bloomberg in 2009. He was a one-armed bandit in a game which requires at least two holsters. Without a third political party, Gracie Mansion will continue to be a mirage for Blacks.

While the focus of the effort by Blacks in 2010 is to form a third party, the mission is to provide a political education to Blacks. Before Kwame Ture made his transition, he asked for any conscious Black to step forward and make a sacrificial effort to provide a political education to Blacks. Today, Ture is smiling. Blacks will finally receive a political education.
