Political Football Starts in July

Next month, professional football teams will open their training camps. Teams will engage in physical and mental conditioning. It is very important to learn the rules. Teamwork is critical to success. It is more important than individual talent. A potato couch or a football critic fails to add to team success.

While professional football teams will start their training camps next month, the political season for all "independent bodies" seeking ballot status will start on July 6. Thus, any person who intends to contribute to the establishment of the Freedom Party must already be in training. On-the-job training is ill-advised. This is like a medical doctor skipping an internship.

An important training camp for political development will convene at the Cotton Club, 656 West 125th Street in Harlem (nr. Westside Hwy.) on Tuesday, June 22 at 7:00 p.m. Take the "1" train to 125th Street. In addition to attorneys Fred Dean and Michael Lloyd, we will be conducting a political workshop on New York Election Law in addition to the Reconstruction Amendments of the U.S. Constitution.

The next evening, I will be discussing an expansive look at third-party politics and its history in the United States. It is not enough to learn election law. The five political parties will be spewing propaganda against the Freedom Party. We must be able to meet "fire with fire." This was Carter G. Woodson's concern in "The Miseducation of the Negro". Voter education is not enough. Blacks including Black elected officials need a political education.

On Thursday at 7:00 p.m., we will be at CEMOTAP Headquarters, 135-09 Rockaway Blvd. in Queens to conduct a political workshop. This will be our third workshop in New York City. For the moment, residents of Long Island should come to Queens. Similarly, residents of Westchester County should come to the Cotton Club on Tuesday evening.

You should pass this information along to a relative, friend or neighbor. If Marcus Garvey could summon thousands without radio, television or telephone, we should be able to assemble at least one hundred persons at the Cotton Club, Elks Plaza and CEMOTAP. Pick up a tool of modern communications and go for it. A knock on someone's door is still permissible.
